Federal nicotine cap to take effect on July 23rd and Flavour Ban
June 16th 2021 | Revised July 20th 2021
Federal nicotine cap to take effect on July 23rd and Flavour Ban

The Canadian federal government will be publishing guidance for the federal nicotine cap in their latest Canada Gazette Part II which is set to be released on June 23rd.

We expect the nicotine cap to come into effect on July 23rd, 2021.

We will continue to sell concentrations over 20mg/mL until July 22nd at 11:59 PM - after this time, we will be capping all of our e-liquid products to 20mg/mL.

What to do if you currently vape more than 20mg/mL

We have three suggestions for helping you cope with the nicotine cap:

1.  Stock up on a number of different e-liquid strengths to help you lower your nicotine. For example, if you vape 40mg/mL - We recommend (while you can) stocking up some bottles at 40mg/mL, some at 35mg/mL, some at 30mg/mL, some at 25mg/mL and some at 20mg/mL to help you get down to 20mg/mL.

2. Switch to freebase nicotine (if you use nicotine salts). 18mg of freebase nicotine will give you a similar throat hit as 40mg/mL of nicotine salt e-liquid

3. Increase your power. If your device allows it, choose a coil that produces more power, or get a device that can. (Feel free to ask us for suggestions and we'll be glad to help!)

Sadly, this change appears to also affect DIY users as the nicotine base will also be capped to 20mg/mL for retail purchases. Wholesale orders will be able to continue purchasing 100mg/mL.

At the end of the day - it's a bummer, but a very easy-to-adjust problem for most people. Let us know if you have questions and we'll be happy to help!

Federal Flavour Ban Announced

The Canadian federal government published guidance for the federal flavour ban in their latest Canada Gazette Part I (https://gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2021/2021-06-19/html/reg2-eng.html)

The federal government is proposing a prohibition on all flavours other than Tobacco, Mint and Menthol.

They define "flavour" as anything that has a sensory attribute in inducing youth to vape - this means that if it smells like strawberries, it's banned. If it smells like cream, it's banned. If it smells like anything other than tobacco, mint or menthol, it is prohibited for sale in all of Canada.

Stay tuned for further information on how we can fight this!
