Bill S5 Labeling Requirements Brings Changes to DashVapes

Bill S5 Labeling Requirements Brings Changes to DashVapes

At DashVapes, We strive to ensure that we are always a step ahead. We try to be proactive instead of reactive.

Bill S-5 was introduced in Parliament in November 2016. The Bill proposes to amend the Tobacco Act, the Non-smokers’ Health Act and other related Acts, in order to:

  • Further, protect youth from nicotine addiction and inducement to tobacco use
  • Allow adults, in particular, adult smokers, to legally access vaping products as a less harmful alternative to tobacco
  • Preserve a path to market for vaping products marketed for a therapeutic purpose
  • Provide a mechanism to address risks to human health and safety for vaping products that are not marketed for a therapeutic purpose.

Among the proposed amendments, the Tobacco Act would change to “Tobacco and Vaping Products Act.”

The Bill proposes many changes to how Vaping products can be promoted, advertised, labelled, etc.

Although the Bill has not yet received Royal Assent in Parliament and is not yet law, some items are sure-things to pass.

One of these items is the  Labelling requirements for Vaping products.

"Regulations made under the Act would require that vaping product packages or the product itself clearly display such consumer awareness information as health warnings, nicotine concentration, and a list of ingredients."

This means all vaping products must be labelled in accordance with the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations (CCCR 2001) - which also means we have to make changes to every single label in our catalogue to ensure they are compliant.

In order for us to be able to display the necessary information on all of our labels, we will no longer be carrying glass bottles - The only option for e-juice will now be the Chubby Gorilla Unicorn Bottle (30mL, 60mL, 100mL, 120mL, 200mL)

This change will be effective immediately for all online orders, as well as any purchases made at our Markham location. This change will allow us to have all of the data on your label printed directly on the label, including the Batch #, Born on dates and any information such as bottle size and nicotine strength.

For our retail partners, this means any products you purchase now will be compliant as soon as Bill S5 gets royal assent, so you do not have a disruption to your business, and no longer will you have added stickers to bottles.

We've worked hard with our manufacturing partners to ensure their labels are compliant, and we're excited to be among the first companies in Canada that can already claim full CCCR 2001 compliance.

As always, we appreciate your feedback! Let us know if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
