How to clean your coils!
March 23rd, 2018 2:00PM

Dave here from Dashvapes again and today I’m going to be showing you how to clean your coils in a few easy steps.

Today we are going to dive a little bit deeper in terms of that process and I’m going to be showing you how to clean your coils from start to finish. Just as a disclaimer this is only for rebuildable coils that you install yourself.  I have an RDA I’ve been using for about a week now, and the coils are getting a little gunked up and it’s definitely not performing like it used to. The main thing I’m noticing is, I’m not getting as much flavour as I used to.  Also if I take a longer hit it tends to get a bit burnt by the end of it.

These are usually telltale signs that you need to replace the wicks in your coil. So the first thing we are going to do is find a clean space and remove your wicks.

This process is super simple. What I like to do is, take a pair of tweezers and pull the cotton from one end. One thing to mention is that if your wicks are super tight you don’t want to kind of tug on the cotton too hard or you’ll warp your coil. If you do find that your cotton is super tight though, don’t worry. What I usually do is take a corner of one side and kind of pluck at it until it thins out.  As soon as its thin enough to go through the coil, I just pull on the other side and it comes out in one piece.

Now that the wicks are out of our coils, we can now get rid of all this residue that's left on the coils. So let’s head over to the nearest sink.

The first thing we are going to want to do is actually take your sink, and turn it on cold.  We’re going to grab our RDA and what we’re actually gonna do is fire and it's going to burn off all that excess gunk right at the top there. Start pulsing it, you are going to see your coils get bright red. So pulse your coils and soon as it gets really hot, what you’re going to want to do is run them under the water. You do not want to hold the button down as it’s submerged in water. As soon as you are about to dunk it, let go. So you are going to see here, they are going to get bright and you are going to hear it sizzle. That’s completely normal.

You can fire to burn off all that excess water, and you can repeat this process as many times you like. I do it about 2 times just for good measure. If there is any excess gunk after the first rinse, then it usually comes off after the second rinse. Now it’s time to re-wick it.

So here I have a re-wicked RDA and ready to go. And I can honestly say it's performing much better now. The flavour, the vapour everything is on point like I had it day one.

The main thing I’m noticing to is that if I take a longer it doesn’t get burnt by the end of it. Now one thing I do want to mention is that this process isn’t going to last forever. I find depending on the type of coil you have installed. I can use them for about a month to two months. After that time period, the flavour and vapour are not up to par, and that’s a good time when you should actually rebuild and install new coils.
